SMS-Activate shut down: what to use instead
The service where numbers for sign-ups were taken for years closed at the end of 2025. The need for numbers did not go away. Below: what to check in a replacement to avoid the old mistakes.
The shutdown
SMS-Activate announced the closure at the end of 2025 through its official channels. The name is still searched thousands of times a month: people are choosing where to go.
What to check in a replacement
- Physical SIMs instead of virtual numbers. Many services cut off virtual and VoIP ranges before sending the code: the form rejects the number. A carrier SIM number passes.
- Rental next to one-time codes. A one-time activation gives one code; minutes later the number goes to someone else. Services ask for the number again: login from a new device, account recovery. An account for months needs a number for a term.
- Countries and services. Check in advance that numbers exist for your service and the account's country. Number country equal to login country means fewer checks.
- API and automatic code delivery. A flow of sign-ups needs codes via API or webhook, without refreshing a page by hand.
- One dashboard. The number, the sign-up mailbox and the proxy of one account are easier to take together.
One-time codes cheap, rental for long-lived accounts
| Task | What to take | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Get a code once, the account is not needed for long | One-time activation | Cheap — from a few cents; the number is not needed after the code |
| An account you will keep for months | Number rental on a physical SIM | The code arrives again on a repeat login or recovery |
| A flow of sign-ups | API plus webhook for codes | No manual page refreshing |
Straight about prices: the cheapest one-time codes for some services are lower than our partner's. TurboN's strength is rental of physical-SIM numbers for long-lived accounts. If you need batches of one-time codes at the minimum price — compare several platforms.

FAQ
Where did the money on my SMS-Activate balance go?
Refund instructions were published by the service in its official channels. We are not connected with SMS-Activate and cannot help with their balance.
Why is a physical SIM better than a virtual number?
Services recognise virtual and VoIP numbers and refuse before sending the code. A carrier SIM number looks like an ordinary subscriber and passes the check.
Why rent if the code is needed once?
A long-term account asks for the code again: login from a new device, account recovery. By that moment a one-time number belongs to someone else and access cannot be restored.
Is there an API?
Yes: TurboN has an API for numbers, mailboxes and proxies; codes arrive by webhook.
